Does this crawler run JavaScript?

This is a test page from CrunchJunkie. We use it to find out which AI crawlers and AI assistants run JavaScript when they read a web page.

Everything on this page is in its HTML except one sentence. That sentence is not in the page source: a script asks our server for it after the page has loaded and puts it in the box below. A reader that does not run JavaScript sees only the placeholder.

Placeholder: no script has run here, so the sentence loaded by JavaScript is missing.

Why we test this

Our GEO Audit tells site owners that text added by JavaScript is invisible to the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, because they read the raw HTML. Google renders JavaScript. For the others we want our own evidence rather than an assumption, and the answer can change at any time.

What we record

For known crawlers (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-User, PerplexityBot, Googlebot, Bingbot and others) we keep, per request to this page or to the sentence, the time, the user agent, whether the request came from the operator’s published addresses, and the network it came from, never the full IP address. Everyone else, people included, is only counted: one number per day for the page and one for the sentence, with no time of day, no IP address and no user agent. We delete these records after 90 days. No analytics or advertising scripts run on this page.
